Lanzarote is a subtropical volcanic island, now proclaimed a Biosphere Reserve. Situated in the Atlantic Ocean, 90 kilometres
off the west coast of Africa, it is the most northerly of the Canary Islands - lying in the warm Gulf Stream with an almost
constant year round temperature varying only by 10 degrees between winter and summer. In winter, daytime temperatures
average 25 degrees Celsius and in summer 35 degrees, but it is always tempered by cooling trade winds - resulting in a very
agreeable climate.
The Island measures 60 kilometres from north to south and 23 kilometres from east to west and has over 300 volcanoes,
thankfully all of which are dormant, and it covers an area of 845 square kilometres - of which 60% is lava.
Thanks to the devotion of the world famous Lanzarotean artist and designer Cesar Manrique, the Island has been developed
to enhance what nature has created, so that locals and visitors alike can appreciate the variety of attractions this
beautiful island has to offer. From wine tasting to camel riding, from art galleries to horse riding, and from eating out
to windsurfing, visitors of all age groups have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports and pastimes.
